Guitar Therapy Sessions

Welcome to Guitar Therapy Sessions.

These sessions are all about getting together with other musicians and playing through songs in a raw, live setting ~ exploring feel, tone, and interpretation in the moment.

Each session has its own energy depending on who was in the room and how the songs came together that day, making every version a little different.

Dive into each session and hear how the music evolved across different players and performances.

I Love My Pussy.Cat

One of my favorite songs! 😻 Not very difficult to figure out why I call myself a “crazy cat lady” 🤪

The original version of this song actually came out on my debut album Dirty Little Secret (originally titled Indy).

It's Up To Me

The second to last song on my third album, Make Your Move 😎

I wrote this song as a pick-me-up type song, kinda to force me to always remember that it’s up to me to chase my dreams and goals. 😊

Would love to redo this song to match my rockier/bluesier approach now!

The World Don't Owe You A Thing/Fly Like An Eagle

The World Don’t Owe You A Thing is a song I began writing waaay back in 2009. I initially began writing this song with the great Phil Madeira.

At the time, I didn’t feel like the song fitted the album I was working on (Make Your Move), so I kinda shelved it.

A couple of years later I revisited it and just kinda took it in another direction, which ended up being part of my last album That’s What She Said.

You Get What You Settle For

Thelma & Louise, anyone?

The name of this song is actually a phrase Louise says to Thelma in one of my absolute favorite movies. 🤩

That movie and phrase inspired me, so I decided to write a song around it. I actually began writing You Get What You Settle For in an incredible songwriting retreat I took in Mexico 🇲🇽

Devil In The Rearview

Here’s Devil in the Rearview, a song I recorded and released back in 2019.

This was the first time I ever played it live with a band! (In the studio, we recorded it instrument by instrument)

Smoke More Pot

This song is from my 4th album, “That’s What She Said,” and I’ve played it at gigs with drummer Adam Gust. I really enjoyed having Bob Malone on keys on this song ~ it gave me a lot of freedom to focus on my vocals and not worry tooooo much about rhythm guitar.

Also – check out the guitar solo on this take – see if you recognize that melody from any other song you might know (or that I might have been playing a LOT lately in another band I’m in…) 😜

Too Much Time On My Hands

This song is SO fun to play as a blues! Especially with four lead-singer-quality vocalists harmonizing together!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Guitar Therapy Session 3

Lineup

David Leach – Percussion

Ben White – Bass, Backing Vocals

Bob Malone – Keys, Backing Vocals

Recorded by George Skarpelos

Beautiful

This is an incredible song, written by Linda Perry and made famous by the inimitable Christina Aguilera. I highly recommend you seek out Linda Perry performing it ~ there are lots of videos on YouTube. I got to see her play it solo at a music conference, and it blew my mind…so heartfelt and simple. 💜

Breathing Underwater

Out of my sophomore album (also named Breathing Underwater), this is one of my favorite songs to play in an acoustic setting 🤍

I Miss You

I Miss You is the first song on my sophomore album, Breathing Underwater. Since we decided to do this third session with an acoustic setup, I thought this song would do nicely. 😊

Thank God For Birth Control

I always have so much fun with this song! Watch out for Bob’s solo, so tasty! I did miss my kazoo solo though 🤪

Guitar Therapy Session 4

Lineup

Joe Travers – Drums

David Leach – Percussion

Bryan Beller – Bass

Felice Hernandez – Backing Vocals

Recorded by George Skarpelos

Directed, shot, and edited by Mark Ludmer

Everybody's So Naked

Everybody’s So Naked is a song from my last album, That’s What She Said. It was actually inspired by an interview Katy Perry had with NPR.

This was actually the very first time I played this song with a full band, and I had SOOOOOO much fun with it!! 😎

I Miss You

This session was very special to me because I met Joe & Bryan through Wes Wehmiller, my bassist back in the early aughts (2000s). And David played in my band with Wes, as well as recorded with him, before Wes’ death in 2005.

So I chose for us to play I Miss You, a song that Wes recorded with me ~ he brought so much to that song through his bass line ~ it was so iconic of him.

You're Still With Me

You’re Still With Me is another song from my 2010 album, Make Your Move.

This song is very special for me, as I wrote it in honor of my wonderful friend and bass player, Wes Wehmiller, who passed away.

I was really happy with this take and wanted to share it with you. 🤍

You're Worth More

You’re Worth More is the fourth song from my 2010 album, Make Your Move.

This song was inspired by an experience my good friend and artist, Jamie Green, had with a person from the music industry.

For this session, we did a very emotional, distorted electric guitar version of You’re Worth More, something I really enjoyed.

Guitar Therapy Session 5

Steve Aguilar – Keys

Bryan Beller – Bass

Felice Hernandez – Backing Vocals

Everybody's So Naked

Here’s another second pass at Everybody's So Naked. Which one did you like best? ✨

I Love My Pussy.Cat

Here’s another second pass at a song from Session 1.

Similar to You Get What You Settle For, I feel this one sounds better/fuller.

It definitely makes a difference to have keys supporting the harmony; it gives me much more freedom to focus only on riffs and solos. 😄

Smoke More Pot

Wow – I think this is the best version of this song so far… I had SO much fun playing it at rehearsal, and even MORE fun at the show the next night! 🥰🥰🥰

You Get What You Settle For

Here’s my second pass at You Get What You Settle For. I think I like this one better, but it has to do more with the fact that this one feels fuller than the previous one.

Session one was a 3-person band, so it definitely had a different vibe altogether. What do you think? 🧐
